STUDENT GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

STUDENT GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

As per the UGC guidelines (Gazette notification CG-DL-E-11042023-245095 dt 11 April 2023), a Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) has been constituted at Gnanam School of Business, Thanjavur. It aims to look into the complaints lodged by any student and redress it as per requirement. Students can reach out to SGRC with their grievances, if any, regarding academic matters related to their study in the campus.

Henceforth, Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) will also act as an Anit-ragging committee at Gnanam School of Business.

Objectives of the SGRC

  1. To create a safe and supportive platform for students to express their grievances freely, with the assurance of complete anonymity.
  2. To establish an efficient mechanism for the prompt and effective resolution of student grievances, ensuring a timely redressal process.
  3. To provide appropriate counselling and guidance to students during the grievance resolution process, fostering emotional well-being and clarity.
  4. To promote harmony and a positive relationship among students, encouraging mutual respect and understanding within the campus community.

Functions of the SGRC

  1. To review and assess grievances submitted by students, ensuring that all complaints are handled with fairness and transparency.
  2. To adhere strictly to the principles of natural justice while evaluating and addressing grievances, ensuring impartiality and objectivity in decision-making.
  3. To submit detailed reports, along with appropriate recommendations, to the affiliating university for further action.
  4. To conduct regular surveys to identify underlying issues faced by students and proactively provide effective solutions to address their concerns.

Procedure for Redressal of Grievances

Our institution strictly follows the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Guidelines for Redressal of Grievances of Students, 2023 (notified on April 11, 2023).

The process for addressing grievances is as follows:

  1. Online Grievance Submission: Students can submit their grievances through the institution’s online portal available on the college website, by sending an email or by dropping their complaint in the designated grievance box.
  2. Referral to the Committee: Upon receipt of a complaint, the institution will forward it to the relevant Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) along with its comments within 15 days of receiving the complaint.
  3. Hearing the Complaint: The SGRC will set a date to hear the complaint and communicate the hearing details to both the institution and the aggrieved student. The student may present their case in person or authorize a representative to do so on their behalf.
  4. Escalation to Ombudsperson: If the grievance is not resolved by the SGRC within the stipulated timeframe, it may be referred to the Ombudsperson for further action. The Ombudsperson will ensure that all parties are given a reasonable opportunity to be heard. Upon concluding the proceedings, the Ombudsperson will issue an order, including the reasons and relief deemed appropriate for the aggrieved student. Copies of the order will be provided to both the institution and the aggrieved student.
  5. Implementation of Recommendations: The institution is required to comply with the recommendations made by the Ombudsperson.
  6. Addressing False Complaints: If a complaint is found to be false or frivolous, the Ombudsperson may recommend appropriate action against the complainant.

This process ensures fairness, transparency, and timely resolution of student grievances while maintaining strict adherence to UGC guidelines.
