GSB Honours Change Makers with Dr. Venkataswamy Award for Sustainable Social Innovation

Gnanam School of Business (GSB), in association with The Samaritans Club, hosted “Celebrating Change Makers” at the GSB Auditorium to honour individuals who drive positive social change through innovation and compassion.

Instituted in honour of Dr. G. Venkataswamy, Founder of the Aravind Eye Care System, the award celebrates those who are like him embody compassion, innovation and a vision to uplift society.

The prestigious Dr. Venkataswamy Award for Sustainable Social Innovation was conferred upon Mr. Dinesh Baluraj, Founder of Yali Aerospace for his pioneering efforts in leveraging aerospace technology for social impact. The award was presented by Dr. Karthick Srinivasan, Chief Medical Officer, Aravind Eye Hospital, Thanjavur.

In his chief Guest address, Dr.Karthick spoke how Dr.V transformed Aravind Eye Care into the “McDonald’s of Eye Care,” making quality eye treatment accessible and affordable to all through its efficient and scalable model. He also highlighted Auro Lab, Aravind’s in-house manufacturing unit that produces low-cost, high-quality ophthalmic consumables, as a shining example of

self-reliance and social entrepreneurship. Dr. Karthick urged students to embrace Dr. V’s principles of clarity, compassion and purpose-driven innovation in their own careers.

Following the award presentation, Mr. Dinesh Baluraj shared how Yali Aerospace contributes to India’s growth by developing indigenous aerospace solutions for social and humanitarian applications. His words inspired students to work hard, stay true to their vision and innovate for the nation’s progress. His aerospace firm contributes to the country’s growth and resolves societal challenges.

The event witnessed the presence of faculty members including GSB’s CEO & Director Dr. S.P.S. Arul Doss, Dean Academics-Dr. V. Moovendhan, Faculty Coordinator –Mr. Mathew Diwakar, along with staff and students of GSB.
